Funerals at St. Mary’s and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church

The staff of St. Mary/St. Joseph Catholic Community are here to help you in planning a funeral. Contact the church secretary to help guide you through the necessary steps.

1). She will help establish the date and time of the funeral and will address any issues that may exist regarding the funeral itself or the burial site.

2). She will give you the name and contact information of the funeral coordinator who will assist you in the choice of music and will ask you the number of people you are expecting at the funeral.

3). If necessary she will give you the name and contact information regarding the purchase of a burial site at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

The Funeral Coordinator and/or Director of Music will be happy to choose any or all of the music, if you so desire. Please assist in that process by indicating if you would like more traditional songs and/or contemporary songs. A printed worship and music aid will be provided by the Church for the service.

The use of secular music (music not written for use in sacred liturgy) is not permitted. All music must be suited for the Mass — the highest form of prayer the church offers. If you have any questions, the Funeral Coordinator, Laveta Malek, will be most happy to help you with your selections. She can be reached through the Church office (936-894-2223).

Special Note

In keeping with musical and liturgical guidelines set by the Diocese of Galveston-Houston, the usage of pre-recorded tapes or CDs is not permitted whether for music during the Mass, or to accompany any vocalist.
