The Guardian Angels Senior Club of St. Mary and St. Joseph is a parish ministry catering to those 50 and over. Each month our planning committee meets to decide on the upcoming activities for the month.
Anyone 50 years old or over in the area are invited regardless of denomination. Each month, we have between 30 and 70 people attend our activities.
St. Ann and her daughter Blessed Mary
St. Ann is considered the Patron Saint of Mothers and the Elders
Our DOMINO GROUP meets every Tuesday at 11:00 until 3:00, except on the third Tuesday of the month. All we ask for visitors is to bring a covered dish or dessert, OH, and to have fun of course. We play 42, straight dominoes, chicken foot, Mexican train or what ever you like to play. FYI, we don’t play real serious dominoes, we just have lots of good fun.
GAME DAY AND BINGO
On alternating third Tuesdays we either have BINGO or GAME DAY which begins at 11:00 and lasts until 2:00. We give gifts for Bingo and a $10 door prize drawing is done at the end of the day. On these days the GUARDIAN ANGELS provide a hot entre’ and dessert. We ask visitors to bring a covered dish or dessert to share. This is your opportunity to show off you cooking skills.
OUTINGS & TRIPS
The Guardian Angels have fund raisers to help offset the cost of operation. We have our annual Bake Sale in October each year. In 2013 we started sponsoring bus trips to various casinos in Louisiana. We have suspended the trips for now but plan more in the future. We have had two trips each year, one in March and another in October. Depending on input, they will be either day trips or overnight trips.
Our Seniors have the opportunity to stay active through prayer and fellowship with social gatherings (which always includes a great meal) and bingo or various table games, (cards, dominoes, etc.) and birthdays remembered and two bus trips to the casino in March and October.
Once a year a retreat is planned for spiritual growth. We have a chartered membership in the Aging Ministry of the Galveston-Houston Diocese. As Part of the Northern Deanery we have 2 elected members that represent the parish at the monthly Senior Senate meetings in Houston and bring to our seniors information about the activities of other parishes in the area.
The members also receive the quarterly publication of the “Senior Chatter” for their enjoyment.
